Second Life environments

There are many different types of environments in Second Life: educational, recreational, commercial, historical, playful as well as those dedicated to the arts. I choose three places to feature as they fit into any combination of these environments.

Rust

Rust is a world with a strange mix of machines, chained trees, rusty mushrooms, birds, balloons, butterflies, spiders, elephants and gear flowers. Watch as they corrode, flake and sway in the gentle breeze...

Visit in Second Life
This slideshow are images from an installation on Second Life called RUST by the SL artist Cica Ghost.
This work is on land belonging to Linden Endowment for the Arts, as they provide 6 month contracts on land to any resident that creates a interesting proposal.  Next to the slideshow is a direct link to Cica's installation.
One of the environments that can be experienced in Second LIfe are cities. Some are from the past while others are in the future.  This evening I checked out the Virtual Chelsea Hotel.
Virtual Hotel Chelsea is 4 years old.  They are the Official Virtual representation of the Hotel Chelsea in NYC.  They also have galleries for rent, with their focus being real world artwork verses computer generated art.
Although there are many places for education in Second Life the most well known is the Builder's Brewery. It is new resident friendly and offers free classes at the two sim facility. These classes are not all focused just on the Second Life as providing the building tools, but on open source digital media as well. They also have a very active group and can easily reach help when you need it.
